Greece will steadfastly continue to assist in the de-escalation of the crisis in the Middle East in every possible way, as a reliable interlocutor of all parties, Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis said during a meeting with the ambassadors of Arab countries in Athens, diplomatic sources said on Friday.

“This is made possible by the strategic relationship it has built with Israel but also by its traditionally close ties with the Arab world,” added Gerapetritis, according to the same sources.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, responding to the request of the ambassadors in Athens of Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Morocco, Jordan, Algeria, Palestine, Libya, Iraq and Lebanon, briefed them on the results of his recent trip to Ramallah.

Gerapetritis, according to the sources, “stressed that it is absolutely necessary to immediately address the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip and to fully respect the humanitarian pause, in order to ensure the unhindered flow of aid through more entry points, to provide the necessary medical assistance to the injured and those in need and to release the hostages held following the terrorist attack by Hamas on October 7.”

On their part, the ambassadors “thanked Gerapetritis for his response to the request for a meeting, but also for the principled stance adopted by Greece.”
