Huseyin Buyukdag says he loves Turkey and his job as a teacher. But with the rampant economic crisis and growing repression in his country, he said he and his wife have decided to try and find a better life in Germany. They are among a growing number of young and educated looking to leave Turkey, where rights and freedoms are being eroded and inflation is surging under increasingly authoritarian President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. After Erdogan secured a third term in office in May elections, things are unlikely to change, he says. “Even if I don’t want this, even if I…
Panathinaikos and Olympiakos are gradually improving their position on the Euroleague table, thanks also to their wins at the start of another double week. The Greens edged out visiting Zalgiris Kaunas in Athens with a 73-71 score in a very tight game that the Lithuanians very nearly snatched away from their hosts. There was little separating the two teams throughout the match at the Olympic Sports Hall, but in the end Panathinaikos found the way to keep the upper hand and secure victory for a 4-4 record to date. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan warned that the U.S. aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford, which happens to be the largest of its kind, and recently arrived in Israel, may contribute to serious massacres against Palestinians and destroy Gaza, amid ongoing tensions in the region. “What is the U.S. aircraft carrier doing in Israel? It will start to carry out serious massacres there by striking, destroying Gaza,” Erdoğan told a joint news conference with Austrian Chancellor Nehammer in the capital Ankara on Tuesday. He added: “I have to explain something here. Look, there are over 20 American bases in Syria today.…

On Sunday, it also sent a medical team and supplies to Egypt, saying Ankara was ready to treat wounded Palestinians in Turkey, if needed, and to set up a field hospital at Egypt’s El Arish Airport and Rafah border crossing. In a post on X, formerly Twitter, Koca said the cargo planes carried medicine, generators, medical supplies,…
Mazloum Abdi, who heads the Kurdish-led, US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), also criticised Washington for failing to do more to prevent the strikes, during an interview with AFP in the northern city of Hasakeh. On October 5, Turkey launched a bombing campaign in Syria’s northeast after it said militants who were behind an attack in Ankara came from and were trained in Syria. The semi-autonomous Kurdish administration has denied the claim, and says at least 44 people, including security personnel and civilians, have been killed in the attacks. “More than half of oil and electricity facilities were damaged” as Turkey…
