The International Road Federation (IRF Global) announced its 2023 awards at the “Roads to Tomorrow (R2T)” conference. In the organization held in Arizona, USA; Zigana Tunnel won the award in the “Construction Methodology” category and Eğiste Hadimi Viaduct won the first place in the “Quality Management” category.
In the Eğiste Hadimi Viaduct project; A project quality management system in accordance with ISO 9001 was created and implemented to guarantee quality and avoid duplication of work from design to construction. Collaboration was achieved between all project parties with systematic quality policies for design, materials and construction methods.
In the construction of the Zigana Tunnel, which is the longest double-tube highway tunnel in Europe with a length of 14,5 kilometers, applications requiring advanced techniques were implemented using state-of-the-art equipment with meticulous planning, overcoming complex geological and topographic difficulties. The New Austrian Tunneling (NATM) method was chosen for the tunnel excavation, ensuring that the excavation process was completed in a way that could respond to sensitive and unexpected ground conditions. In the project, a vertical shaft was also applied for ventilation. With this application, which has a special place in highway tunnel applications, the project was built in an innovative, safe and sustainable way.
International Road Federation (IRF Global), which rewards excellent and innovative projects that enable the development of infrastructure technologies and successful names working in this field every year, has awarded more than 30 projects from 150 countries to date, ensuring that the projects are recognized and gain a global reputation.
